When the engine is tuned, especially with stiffer valve springs or higher fuel-pressure demands from upgraded HPFPs, that extra mechanical load can exceed what the VANOS system can comfortably control. The result is exhaust cam timing drift, often referred to as cam walk.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFuel-Pressure Variability: As cam timing begins to wander at high load or high RPM, the HPFPs are no longer driven in a stable, predictable pattern. Fuel pressure can sag or oscillate, which leads to inconsistent AFRs and forces the DME to intervene with timing pulls or throttle closures to protect the engine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eErratic Engine Behavior: With cam phasing and fuel pressure both fluctuating, the engine becomes less predictable overall.
