For those looking to make power with a single turbo and or a built engine running high boost, many will run into the issue of having their exhaust cam drift or walk backwards. Something a tuner will be on the lookout for and you will hit a limit. So we have designed these cam blocks to help prevent "cam walk" and allow the tuner to be able to dial in your car without this sporadic issue.

Exhaust Cam Load: On the S58, the exhaust camshaft is responsible for driving two high-pressure fuel pumps. When the engine is tuned, especially with stiffer valve springs or higher fuel-pressure demands from upgraded HPFPs, that extra mechanical load can exceed what the VANOS system can comfortably control. The result is exhaust cam timing drift, often referred to as cam walk.

Fuel-Pressure Variability: As cam timing begins to wander at high load or high RPM, the HPFPs are no longer driven in a stable, predictable pattern. Fuel pressure can sag or oscillate, which leads to inconsistent AFRs and forces the DME to intervene with timing pulls or throttle closures to protect the engine.

Erratic Engine Behavior: With cam phasing and fuel pressure both fluctuating, the engine becomes less predictable overall. At elevated power levels where precision is everything, this instability can undermine both performance and long-term reliability.

Priced only for the cam blocks, we will be soon offering the cam vise plate to help make the reloading of the spring easier.

The machining quality seems good, but I cannot recommend this company based on my experience. The kit arrived without instructions, and the manufacturer refused to answer a simple yes-or-no question regarding the correct placement of an included spacer, claiming that such information would reveal their intellectual property. I was not asking how to manufacture the part—I simply wanted to verify that I had installed it correctly. For a company selling critical engine components, this level of support is unacceptable. Buy only if you’re prepared to rely on YouTube videos and guesswork.

When this particular product was purchased, installation instructions were not listed on our website, unlike many of our other products. This decision is intentional and primarily driven by liability concerns. The use of cam timing blocks can directly affect an engine’s ability to properly adjust and control valve timing. Improper installation or use can lead to serious engine damage. As a result, this product is not intended for individuals without a solid understanding of BMW engine timing systems and the purpose of these components.

To assist with installation, we provided a YouTube video from a highly respected and well-known tuner demonstrating the installation process. The video specifically covered installation on a B58 engine, which is the platform you are working with. While there are minor differences between the S58 and B58 cam sprockets, the installation principles and procedures shown in the video are directly applicable to your application.

Regarding our efforts to protect intellectual property, this is a challenge we face daily. Over the years, many of our products have been copied and reproduced by competitors, often without any investment in the research, development, testing, and engineering that went into creating them. These situations force us to compete against products that were developed using our own hard-earned work and innovation.
