After more than a year and a half of engineering, testing, and refinement, we’re proud to officially introduce the NRW Design BMW B58 Gen 2 Single-Piece Billet Valve Cover.
From digitally scanning the original OEM valve cover to designing a completely new billet solution, every stage of development was driven by one objective: create the highest-quality, most reliable replacement available for the factory plastic valve cover.
Throughout development, we produced multiple design revisions, extensive prototypes, and numerous test units to ensure every aspect of the final product met our standards before release.
Engineered to Eliminate OEM Weaknesses
One of our primary objectives was eliminating the factory PCV system—a well-known failure point that has affected BMW turbocharged engines since the S55 platform.
Our billet valve cover is designed to operate with an external catch can system, providing a more robust and reliable crankcase ventilation solution for both street and high-performance applications.
Leveraging what we learned while developing our S58 valve covers, we incorporated three -12 ORB/AN ports to efficiently evacuate excessive crankcase pressure under extreme operating conditions. Proper crankcase evacuation becomes increasingly important on high-boost applications and can help reduce valve train instability, including the cam timing movement commonly referred to as “VANOS walk,” often experienced at boost pressures exceeding 45 psi.
Each valve cover includes:
● (2) -12AN swivel fittings
● (1) -12 ORB/AN block-off fitting
● (1) 1/8” NPT plug
● OEM BMW valve cover gasket
● OEM BMW HPFP gasket
The third port also provides the flexibility to expand your crankcase ventilation system in the future should your application require additional evacuation capacity.
True Single-Piece Billet Construction
Our valve cover is CNC machined from a single block of 6061-T6 aluminum for one simple reason—reliability.
A true single-piece design minimizes potential leak paths while maximizing structural rigidity. Although multi-piece valve covers can simplify cylinder head re-torque procedures, we believe the added sealing surfaces introduce unnecessary opportunities for leaks.
In our experience, the minimal time savings simply do not outweigh the long-term reliability benefits of a one-piece design. Furthermore, vehicles requiring routine head re-torquing are typically dedicated race cars that often do not retain the factory cowl, making this feature unnecessary for the vast majority of customers.
Internal PCV Port Elimination
Unlike many aftermarket solutions, our valve cover internally blocks the factory intake ports used by the OEM PCV system.
This eliminates the need for external plugs after removing the factory PCV assembly while preventing oil vapor from re-entering the intake manifold. The result is a cleaner intake tract and reduced carbon buildup on the intake valves over time.
Attention to Detail
We also incorporated machined ignition coil dust seals into every valve cover—a detail many competing designs overlook.
Without proper sealing, dust, oil, and debris can accumulate around the spark plug wells and potentially enter the cylinder head during routine maintenance. While machining these features adds manufacturing time and cost, we believe attention to detail is what separates a premium product from the rest.
OEM Serviceability
Long-term serviceability was another priority throughout development.
Our valve cover exclusively utilizes OEM BMW gaskets, eliminating the need for proprietary seals or custom replacement components. Owners can source replacement gaskets anywhere genuine BMW parts are available.
Additional Features
● Internal baffling to improve oil control during high-RPM and high-load operation
● Integrated 1/8” NPT port for crankcase pressure sensors, including RIFE sensors
● Compatible with BM3, MHD, and standalone ECU systems for crankcase pressure monitoring and engine fail-safe strategies
Active crankcase pressure monitoring provides valuable engine health data and can be used to trigger safety strategies in the event of excessive crankcase pressure associated with head lift or head gasket failure.
